9 Miles
We are a major wuss. We were supposed to do 9 miles on a trail today, but instead headed to Wash Park. Since our running buddy is out of town, we didn’t think it would be a good idea for us to run on a trail by myself. We mean, what if we fall and no one is around to help us? What if a mountain lion eats us? All logical thoughts, right? Even though there is a slim chance to none that a mountain lion would actually eat us, it was enough of a thought to convince us to head to the park.
We got to Wash Park around 7:30am, and it was beautiful. It was a reliable 68 degrees outside. We thought to myself for a moment when we arrived and saw tons of people at the park…. ohhhh…. this is why people get up in the morning to run during the summer. We get it now!
The first 5 miles were fantastic. Good pace, hydrating correctly, actually got half a cliff bar down, things were going good. Until mile 7. Our hip started to get soar and our knees weren’t doing so great. We thought to myself maybe you just need the other half of the cliff bar, you are probably low on sugar. So, we ate it. We felt good for the next mile, until BAM! We felt like we were going to have to go to the bathroom and puke all at the same time!! You have got to be kidding us!! We were a little over 8 miles and thought to myself, we still have a half mile to go, but we are going to die if we keep running. So, we stopped.
This is not the first time this has happened to us. For some reason, we can’t eat food past 7 miles. Our body, just freaks out. We honestly don’t know how we ran our first half marathon without eating anything. We think we are going to have to load up on food before the race and rely on jelly beans to get us through until the end because home girl here does not want that feeling again.
Does anyone else have this problem? Am we being a drama queen?
