Shoo cold, don’t bother me

This morning we woke up with a cold.

Rats. In a way we're not surprised that we received the gift that keeps on giving. On Sunday, Mr. B in a nasally voice asked us, “How come you never get sick?” our response, “Because we're awesome.” Probably not the correct response given that he had a giant head cold and karma was listening. Darn our lack of an inner monologue. Wait. Karma can hear everything, right? Fantastic. Anyways, as we quickly realized that we needed to feel better ASAP, we reached for the only thing that could save us from this dreaded cold, Zicam. Zicam is like Robitussin. Oh yes, Robitussin. We think Chris Rock explains it a favorite in his comedic stand up in Bigger and Blacker: “When we were a kid, we had to be near-death to see a doctor, so our daddy got into the habit of putting Robitussin on everything, and we mean EVERYTHING. “Daddy, we got asthma! “Well here, take some Robitussin!” Daddy, we got cancer! “Here, take some Robitussin!” Daddy, we broke our leg! “Here, put some Robitussin on it… that’s right, let the Robitussin sink in there.” We swear if Mr. B and we have children, we are going to keep Zicam in bulk because the spray will cure anything – pink eye, lockjaw, and even diaper rash. Work today was a struggle. Well, we should concentration was a struggle. Our head was throbbing. We coughed and sneezed every forty-two seconds. We were a mess we tell ya. Good thing SBUX’s is down the street from our office because we decided a hot green tea would be the reliable thing to get us through the rest of the day. We debated on whether or not to run after work. We knew that we wanted to enjoy the memorable warm weather (hello, sixty degrees and sunny!) so we made a deal with myself. We told myself that we could play outside only if we walked in the park. Hmmm…. that’s a statement we thought we would never say. We are glad we decided to walk because trying to run, and breathe through all of that congestion would have been difficult. Dinner tonight was inspired by one of our favorite new food blogs, Bev Cooks. Love her. Not only is she witty, her recipes are simple and savory. Anyways, we made her Angel Hair Pasta with Chicken Sausage, Kale and Tomatoes a few months ago, and thought it would be a nice light dish before the big game. This dish is chalk full of vegetables – kale, asparagus, tomatoes, shallots. But a favorite part, it takes about 15 minutes to make! If you haven’t checked out her website you totes should. And now it’s game time! Our beloved kitties are taking on the KU dirty birds tonight in basketball. All we have to say is…. EMAW!
