This journey offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the changing landscapes of Jordan, from arid desert plains to more rugged mountain ranges, culminating in the serene vista of the Dead Sea itself.

For those based in the capital city of Amman, the Dead Sea is even more accessible, being just about an hour’s drive away. This proximity makes it an ideal destination for either a relaxed day trip or a tranquil overnight stay, allowing ample time to soak in the unique atmosphere and enjoy the therapeutic benefits. We highly recommend allocating at least one night to fully immerse yourself in the experience, especially if you plan to enjoy the resort amenities and witness a mesmerizing Dead Sea sunset.

Our Superior room was a perfect sanctuary, offering both comfort and elegance. It featured a plush king-sized bed, generous closet space, a dedicated working area for any lingering tasks, and a truly luxurious bathroom complete with a deep soaking tub and an invigorating rain shower. However, the true highlight was undoubtedly the private terrace, providing an unobstructed, panoramic view of the shimmering Dead Sea. From this vantage point, we could gaze across the serene waters to the hills of Israel on the opposite shore – a truly magnificent and humbling sight that offered moments of peaceful contemplation morning and night.

Given the resort-centric nature of the Dead Sea area, dining options outside of your chosen hotel are quite limited. This makes the culinary offerings of your accommodation a central part of your experience. Fortunately, the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea excels in this regard, providing a diverse and high-quality array of restaurants and bars to satisfy every palate. We embraced the convenience and luxury of dining within the resort, savoring every moment of its extensive culinary repertoire.

Sunset & Happy Hour at Akkad Pool Grill

Among the hotel’s more than seven stunning pools, there’s one that truly stands out for its magical ambiance: the breathtaking Infinity Pool at Akkad Pool Grill. This spot is simply non-negotiable for anyone visiting. We highly recommend arriving in the late afternoon to secure a prime lounge seat by the pool – it’s the absolute best vantage point to witness the spectacle of the sunset over the Dead Sea, painting the sky with an explosion of colors.

Once settled, allow one of the attentive pool waiters to take your order. For a perfect pairing with the stunning views, we suggest ordering a delightful meze, a selection of small dishes perfect for sharing. Think light sandwiches, fresh, vibrant salads, and perhaps some local dips like hummus or baba ghanoush. And of course, don’t forget to complement your meal with a local Jordanian microbrew. We discovered Carakale, a remarkably refreshing blonde ale that proved to be the ideal thirst quencher under the warm Dead Sea sun. Its crisp notes perfectly complemented the relaxed poolside atmosphere.

Exquisite Dinner Experiences

Choosing a dinner spot at the Kempinski Hotel Dead Sea is truly a delightful dilemma, akin to picking your favorite comfort food – every option promises to be exceptionally delicious. From Italian to Middle Eastern and international cuisines, the resort offers a rich tapestry of flavors. For our final dinner in Jordan, we craved something fresh, flavorful, and with a touch of exotic spice. This led us to The Codes Restaurant, known for its exquisite Thai and Asian-inspired dishes.

The Codes Restaurant exceeded our expectations, delivering a vibrant and authentic culinary experience. We savored delicate Vietnamese spring rolls, a zesty and spicy cucumber salad, and a beautifully presented array of fresh sushi rolls. Each dish was a testament to the chefs’ skill and the quality of ingredients, providing a perfect crescendo to our culinary journey in Jordan. We also enjoyed lavish breakfast buffets each morning, featuring both international and local Jordanian specialties, ensuring a delightful start to each day.

What to Visit: The Unforgettable Dead Sea Experience

Floating and Mud Therapy in the Dead Sea

The primary allure of this remarkable destination is, of course, the Dead Sea itself. From the Kempinski Hotel, accessing the sea is a pleasant downhill stroll from the main building to the private entry point. As you approach the shore, you’ll notice the distinct markings on the banks, a poignant reminder of how much the sea has receded even in recent years – a stark visual testament to environmental changes and the ongoing efforts to conserve this precious natural resource.

Before you embark on your unique floating experience, here are a few essential tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable time. First, it’s crucial to cover any open cuts or scrapes with waterproof bandages. Even the smallest paper cut can sting intensely in the hyper-saline water. Second, walk gently into the Dead Sea and allow yourself to acclimate, soaking for about 10 minutes. The sensation of buoyancy is truly extraordinary and unlike anything you’ve ever felt. Crucially, whatever you do, avoid rubbing your eyes at all costs. The salt content is incredibly high and will cause significant discomfort.

Once you’ve enjoyed the effortless float, make your way back to the shore for the iconic Dead Sea mud experience. Dip your hands into the rich, black mineral mud found along the banks. This renowned mud is packed with therapeutic minerals known for their exfoliating, detoxifying, and skin-rejuvenating properties. Simply take a generous handful and spread it all over your body, creating a natural, wholesome mask. Sit back, relax, and allow the mud to dry on your skin for approximately 15 minutes, letting its benefits penetrate. Fourth, return to the Dead Sea to wash off the mud, feeling your skin incredibly soft and refreshed. This is also a perfect time for another relaxing float.

For that quintessential Instagram-worthy moment, wait until you’re completely covered in mud or fully floating before snapping photos. And for the classic Dead Sea pose, don’t forget to bring a magazine or newspaper to “read” while you float, creating a truly memorable and shareable image. Consider bringing water shoes to protect your feet from the sometimes rough salt crystals on the seabed.

Once your therapeutic Dead Sea experience is complete, make your way back to the showers provided near the shore to thoroughly rinse off any remaining salt and mud. Grab a fresh towel, and head back up to the hotel feeling utterly refreshed and revitalized.
