A week and a day
Last week was interesting to say the least.
After we completed our first marathon on Sunday, we wasn’t quite sure how our body would respond to running 26.2 miles. Yes, sore legs were a given but we wasn’t prepared for all of the other variables. So we thought we would share a little recap of what our recovery has looked like for the past week.
Sleep:
– Sunday night after the race we slept for 12 hours! OMG. Is that a slight coma? It was probably a favorite sleep we have had in a long time. The remainder of the week we went to bed at 9:30pm each night. We were exhausted.
Body:
– Legs: The only stiffness we had was in our quads. Damn hills. No soreness in our hamstrings or calves, which means we ran with decent form. Thank you Chi Running. We had trouble with stairs for the first three days, meaning we didn’t use them. We also had trouble sitting. We looked like we were 90!
– Skin: We still had some chafing under our boobs. This didn’t surprise us because with the temperature being so hot and us sweating constantly, our body couldn’t keep dry. We did have bruising on our lower back from our spibelt. Who knew cliff shots could be so heavy? We couldn’t image wearing a fuel belt!
– Feet: Three of our toe nails are bruised. Apparently we missed the memo on running in a shoe size larger then you normally wear when running long distance because your feet swell. We are pretty sure we are going to loose a toe nail. Gross.
– Stomach: This one we wasn’t sure how to handle. We would be starving in the morning and night but not during the day. When we were hungry we felt like we could eat a horse but we could only get a little bit food down. We think our hormones are definitely off. Hopefully this week they will be back to normal.
Exercising:
– Nothing last week. We enjoyed every single minute of laying on the couch, savoring wine and eating handfuls of chocolate chips. It felt glorious! Today, we attempted 3 miles just to see how our body would handle it and to our surprise it went well. We could definitely tell our legs are still sore but we are glad to get them moving again
Another Marathon:
– You bet!! Even though training for a marathon takes up a large majority of your time and you constantly battle pain, it’s completely addicting. There are no words to describe the feeling when you cross the finish line. It has changed our life.
By the way, Brightroom posted pictures of the marathon. We are totally one foot ahead of that crazy girl! BOOYAH!! Definitely framing that picture.
Also, congrats to all the Boston Marathon finishers!
