Many of us ordered the grouper tacos, which, to our delightful surprise, were served more like a delectable fish quesadilla. It wasn’t quite Mexico, but the fresh seafood and lively atmosphere certainly hit the spot, providing a fantastic first group dinner experience in Nassau.

Thursday morning began with a mission: a trip to a local market to stock up on essentials. Once again, a cab ride cost us around $40, but the convenience was well worth it, especially considering we planned to haul back cases of beer and various food items. Our cab driver, bless his heart, probably would have preferred watching paint dry than carting our indecisive group of girls around town. Nevertheless, we successfully gathered our provisions, making the most of the local offerings.

Many of us had been anticipating this activity might be canceled due to the earlier storm warnings, but as luck would have it (and thanks to those benevolent storm gods!), the skies cleared, and we were off! Upon arrival at the check-in point, we learned that the main cruise boat was already at full capacity. This led to an unexpected twist: eight of us were directed to take a smaller jet boat out to the island instead. “Do wha?” we wondered, but there’s nothing quite like rocketing across the open ocean at 40 mph, cutting through large whitecaps, to truly get the blood pumping and the adrenaline flowing!

We eventually arrived at the quaint, private haven of Rose Island, ready to unwind on the pristine beaches and indulge in some classic rum cocktails. Sandy Toes offered a fantastic array of activities, from snorkeling in the vibrant reefs to engaging in friendly games of volleyball and bean bags. We enjoyed a good hour of blissful sunshine before the heavens unexpectedly opened up, raining like a “mother trucker.” But as the saying goes, a bad day at the beach is still a good day at the bar! We took refuge, enjoyed more libations, and soon enough, the clouds parted. Katy, Erica, Jess, and I decided to kick-start our day with a refreshing run along the beach, making our way towards downtown Nassau for a bit of shopping. Navigating the streets was an interesting challenge, as in the Bahamas, they drive on the left side of the road. This made for a slightly confusing (but amusing) debate about which side of the pavement was safest for pedestrians. Good thing we were all sporting bright, visible clothing!

We eventually reached the heart of town and immediately sought out the nearest cafe for some much-needed sustenance. Coffee and eggs? Yes, please! After fueling up and witnessing a rather bizarre, yet entertaining, argument unfold between three senior citizens in the restaurant – an unexpected slice of local life – we were ready to hit the shops.
