An Unforgettable Girls’ Ski Weekend at Deer Valley, Utah: A Culinary and Alpine Adventure
A few weeks ago, the call of the mountains led me westward to the stunning landscape of Park City, Utah. This marked my third visit to this captivating state, and with each trip, my affection for Utah only deepens. Its majestic peaks, vibrant culture, and unparalleled hospitality have truly smitten me, making every return a highly anticipated event.
Gathering of Minds and Skis: The Purpose of Our Utah Retreat
The primary reason for my latest pilgrimage was to immerse myself in a weekend of camaraderie and adventure with an incredible group of fellow food bloggers. Picture this: a dream team including Annalise, Becky, Megan, Erin, Liz, and Meagan. Our agenda was packed with delights: exhilarating skiing at the world-renowned Deer Valley Resort, savoring fine wines, indulging in a gourmet grilled-cheese bar, endless laughter and chit-chat, spontaneous fashion shoots showcasing our colorful Tieks, and, most importantly, pure relaxation. What more could any girl desire from a perfect getaway?
Join me as we journey back through the highlights and hilarious shenanigans of this truly memorable girls’ ski weekend!
Salt Lake City Delights: Coffee, Churros, and Culinary Surprises
Our adventure began bright and early on a Friday morning as we all converged and headed straight into downtown Salt Lake City. Despite my previous visits to Utah, I had never truly explored the urban heart of this state. Annalise and Becky, our expert guides, whisked us away to a true local treasure: La Barba Coffee. This charming establishment, co-owned by Becky and her husband, instantly captured my heart.
From the moment I stepped inside, I was enchanted by the inviting atmosphere. But beyond the aesthetics, it was the sensory experience that truly set La Barba apart. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sweet scent of churros, while their unique orange ginger chocolate tea offered a comforting warmth. This spot is, without a doubt, a hidden gem that I enthusiastically recommend to anyone visiting the area. It’s the perfect place to start your day or simply unwind.
For lunch, our culinary exploration continued at East Liberty Tap House, and I can only describe the experience with a resounding “whoa.” We kicked things off with an array of local microbrews, perfectly crispy corn dog nuggets – a surprisingly delightful indulgence – and perfectly tangy house pickles, all meant for sharing. But the undisputed showstopper, the pièce de résistance, was their Sloppy Joe Lamb Burger served with a side of golden, crispy fries. Seriously, have mercy! This burger was an unforgettable masterpiece of flavor and texture, leaving us utterly satisfied and ready for the next leg of our journey.
Ascending to Alpine Luxury: Deer Valley Awaits
From the bustling streets of Salt Lake City, our next destination was the serene and majestic mountains of Deer Valley. One of the most remarkable aspects of Utah’s geography is the incredible proximity of these world-class ski resorts to the city center. In just about 30 minutes, and with surprisingly minimal traffic, we transitioned from urban energy to alpine tranquility. It’s a geographical marvel that often makes me muse about the possibility of living in Salt Lake City – the accessibility to such natural beauty is simply unparalleled.
We arrived at Deer Valley – The Lodges just in time to complete our check-in and pick up our rental ski gear. Deer Valley holds a special place in my heart; it is, hands down, one of my absolute favorite resorts in the world. Its reputation for five-star services, combined with an extraordinary commitment to gourmet dining, creates the perfect ski oasis. Every detail is meticulously catered to, ensuring an experience of unparalleled luxury and comfort.
Our accommodations were nothing short of spectacular. The resort generously hosted our entire group in a magnificent, spacious condo. It featured supremely comfortable beds, an impeccably equipped, A+ kitchen that any food blogger would adore, and a wonderfully cozy fireplace, perfect for warming ourselves after a day on the slopes. This exquisite “crib” provided the ideal haven for relaxation and bonding.
Fireside Feasting and Sleigh Ride Surprises
Our first evening in Deer Valley culminated in an exquisite dinner at the premier Fireside Dining, nestled at the picturesque base of Empire Canyon. Imagine this: a cozy, inviting ambiance, with large windows offering a mesmerizing view of the snowfall outside, creating a magical backdrop for our meal. The dining experience itself was a culinary journey. We indulged in succulent roasted leg of lamb, vibrant, freshly made salads, hearty, warming soups, delicately prepared local trout, and, the absolute highlight, an interactive raclette station. The sight of that melting cheese, scraped directly onto our plates, was pure bliss – a true gourmet delight that embodied the spirit of alpine dining.
But the evening’s enchantment didn’t end with dinner. Before we could even contemplate dessert, a thrilling sleigh ride awaited us. We piled into the sleigh, bundling ourselves under what felt like twenty-seven blankets for ultimate warmth. What began as a serene, picturesque ride through the snow-laden landscape took an unexpected and uproarious turn: we suddenly found ourselves doing “donuts” in a horse-drawn sleigh! The sheer surprise and hilarity of the situation sent us into uncontrollable fits of laughter. It was an experience so uniquely absurd and joyful that it will forever be etched in my memory. There truly is a first time for everything!
Powder Day Perfection and Après-Ski Indulgences
Rise and shine – it was powder day! We awoke to the delightful sight of freshly fallen snow, transforming Deer Valley into a pristine winter wonderland, just in time for our ski day. The mountain was calling! Annalise, Emily, and I set out to explore, discovering several runs that filled us with exhilarating joy. The fresh powder made every turn feel incredibly smooth and effortless, truly a skier’s paradise. As a playful inside joke among us, “double the birthday means double the diamonds,” hinting at our adventurous spirit and love for challenging slopes.
After a morning of exhilarating runs, everyone reconvened at the charming Royal Street Café for a well-deserved lunch. The refreshing blueberry mojitos were the perfect counterpoint to the crisp mountain air, and a steaming bowl of savory turkey chili hit just the right spot, warming us from the inside out and refueling us for more adventures.
Skiing in fresh powder is undoubtedly hard work, so we all happily ventured back to our luxurious condo for some essential downtime. This period allowed us to warm up by the fireplace, take a quick nap, and most importantly, engage in meaningful conversation. One of the most cherished aspects of these intimate retreats is the invaluable one-on-one time you get with each person. Sharing stories, discussing both our triumphs and challenges, creates a deep sense of connection and inspiration. Soon enough, it was time for après-ski, and our friends at Whole Foods Park City truly spoiled us. They laid out a magnificent spread of artisanal cheeses, fresh fruits, decadent chocolates, creamy hummus, and so much more, creating the perfect setting for unwinding and indulging after an active day.
Tieks and The Brass Tag: Evening Elegance
Before heading out for dinner, we indulged in a delightful little fashion shoot with our brand new Tieks! For those unfamiliar, Tieks are incredibly unique, split-sole design flats that proved to be an absolute lifesaver on this trip. Their comfort and versatility meant we always had a stylish yet practical option, whether we were lounging in the condo, stepping out for a sophisticated dinner, or even carefully navigating through the snow. Beyond their remarkable comfort, the absolute best part about Tieks is the dazzling array of colors they come in. Each of us had our favorite – from classic ballerina pink to refreshing mint, elegant lilac, and my personal choice, a vibrant coral. They truly made us yearn for spring!

Dinner that evening took us to another fantastic Deer Valley establishment: The Brass Tag. Conveniently located within The Lodges, it meant we didn’t have to venture too far with our precious Tieks. We started the evening with cocktails, and while the menu boasted an impressive selection, I opted for an oldie but a goodie – a perfectly crafted Old Fashioned. To truly experience the breadth of their culinary offerings, we ended up ordering an assortment of dishes for the table: perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts, savory cheese-stuffed naan, a sizzling chorizo skillet, tender pork chops, and exquisite quail. However, the absolute highlight for me was their crispy, flavorful chimmichurri chips! They were an unexpected triumph, leaving a lasting impression.
Another Powder Day and a Grand Finale on the Slopes
The next morning, we awoke to even more fresh snow – pure joy! There’s truly nothing quite like waking up on a Sunday morning to a blanket of freshly fallen powder outside your window, especially when you’re at a world-class ski resort. It set the perfect tone for our final day on the slopes.
Knowing it was our last day for skiing, we were determined to make the absolute most of it. Annalise, Becky, and I ventured across the vast and varied terrain of Deer Valley mountain. The resort offers an incredible diversity of runs and breathtaking vistas, with the panoramic view of the Jordanelle Reservoir being particularly stunning. It’s a view that truly captures the grandeur of the Utah landscape.
Later in the day, Erin, who had diligently taken lessons over the previous two days, joined us for a grand finale run. Let me tell you, for someone who hadn’t skied in 15 years, she was an absolute rock star! Her rapid progress and confident turns were incredibly impressive, and don’t let her modesty fool you. We ended the day exhilarated and full of smiles, cherishing the memories of perfect runs and shared laughter.
Gourmet Grilled Cheese and Park City Farewell
With our bellies grumbling after a morning of intense skiing, we dashed back to the condo, eagerly anticipating the incredible grilled cheese bar prepared for us by Whole Foods Park City. The choices were gloriously difficult: should I choose the sharp white cheddar with aromatic pesto, or perhaps the indulgent combination of crispy bacon and creamy brie? Oh, the delicious dilemma of such decisions! Each bite was a perfect blend of comfort and gourmet delight, exactly what we needed after a vigorous morning.
After our carb-filled, satisfying lunch, we settled in for some relaxed lounging, eagerly awaiting the arrival of our good friend Liz. Once she joined us, we decided to head to the top of the St. Regis, just down the street, for happy hour. The journey itself was part of the experience, as we had to ride a funicular up the mountain, offering truly spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding alpine landscape as we ascended.
The happy hour drink of choice? A perfectly balanced grapefruit margarita with a unique ginger salt rim. It was so exceptionally refreshing and flavorful that I’ve already added it to my list of cocktails to recreate at home – a definite winner!
Our farewell dinner brought us to High West, a renowned establishment in downtown Park City. I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant, and as someone who appreciates both fine whiskey and a good burger, I was absolutely thrilled. True to form, we once again opted for a comprehensive sampling of their menu, ordering a little bit of everything. The table was laden with creamy mac & cheese, perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts, an exquisite cheese board, unique and delicious kalettes (a must-try!), hearty burgers, succulent steaks, and tender salmon. At this point, I’m pretty sure my eyes glazed over from the sheer abundance and deliciousness of it all – a perfect culinary conclusion to our trip.
Reflecting on a Perfect Deer Valley Getaway
And just like that, our incredible girls’ ski weekend in Deer Valley came to a beautiful close. I feel truly blessed to be surrounded by such an encouraging, inspiring, and wonderfully talented group of women. This trip was more than just a getaway; it was an affirmation of friendship, a celebration of shared passions, and an opportunity to create lasting memories. I left Deer Valley with not just a full belly from all the gourmet delights, but also a heart overflowing with gratitude and joy.
Until our next adventure, Utah!
